Interview STAR Prep
For candidates 48 hours out from a behavioral interview. Paste the job description and 4 to 6 bullet points about your background, pick a seniority, and get back a print-ready STAR prep sheet: 8 likely behavioral questions ranked very likely, likely, or possible with a one-line why (quoting the JD phrase that triggered each pick), a STAR-structured draft in your own phrasing with explicit metric-gap placeholders where a number would land but your bullets did not supply one, and three sharp follow-up probes per question typed to cause_analysis, counterfactual, and self_awareness with a one-line pivot for each. No account. No mock interview. Just the sheet.
About this tool
What does interview star prep do?
How does Interview STAR Prep work?
Paste the full job description exactly as it appears on the company site or LinkedIn, list 4 to 6 bullet points about your background with team size, timeline, and any numbers you can name, and pick a seniority (IC junior through VP). One structured AI pass returns a print-ready STAR prep sheet: 8 likely behavioral questions in the deep tier (or 5 in the quick tier) ranked very likely, likely, or possible, each with a one-line why quoting the exact JD phrase that triggered the pick, a STAR draft (situation, task, action, result) written in your own phrasing pulled from your bullets, explicit [insert: team size] and [insert: percentage impact] placeholders wherever a number would land but your bullet did not supply one, and 3 typed follow-up probes per answer (cause_analysis, counterfactual, self_awareness) with a one-line pivot for each. No account, no mock interview, no subscription.
How is this different from Star Method Coach, Himalayas, InterviewSolver, or asking ChatGPT?
Star Method Coach, Himalayas, and InterviewSolver bundle STAR inside a full mock-interview app, all require an account, and most sit behind a monthly subscription. A freeform ChatGPT prompt writes a plausible list of behavioral questions, invents impressive-sounding metrics (a 30% latency drop, a $2M revenue impact) that were never in your bullets so you get caught in the follow-up, and rarely tells you WHICH phrase in the JD drove each question. Interview STAR Prep runs one structured pass with four hard rules: every question ships with a one-line why_they_will_ask that quotes the JD phrase or competency that drove the pick, STAR drafts never invent a metric (they emit an explicit [insert: ...] placeholder instead), each answer ships with 3 typed follow-up probes with one-line pivots so you are not defenseless on the second question, and the whole sheet is print-ready so you can rehearse it the night before. One structured pass, no account, one wallet, pay per run.
Will it invent metrics for my STAR answers?
No, and that is the deliberate line the tool will not cross. Every result field in every STAR draft is grounded in the exact bullet you pasted. Where a number would strengthen the answer (team size, latency delta, revenue impact, timeline, headcount) but your bullet did not supply the number, the draft emits a first-class metric_gaps entry like [insert: team size at the time] or [insert: p99 latency before and after] instead of writing 'led a team of 4' when you never said 4. The UI renders the metric_gaps list as an unchecked checklist titled 'Fill this in before the interview' so you can gather the actual numbers before you walk in. Thin bullets like 'led a project' will produce thin drafts with many metric_gaps to fill, which is the honest signal to enrich your background bullets before rerunning.
What are the three probe categories, and why are they typed?
Every question in the deep tier ships with EXACTLY 3 follow-up probes, one per category: cause_analysis (why did that happen, what made it specifically a problem, what was the root cause), counterfactual (what would you do differently if you ran it again, what if the deadline had slipped, would you make the same call), and self_awareness (what would your teammate say went wrong, what did you learn about yourself, how has this changed how you work). The quick tier ships 2 probes per question drawn from the two categories that hit hardest for that question. Probes are typed because the categories map to how interviewers actually push in the room: an interviewer scores against a competency and drills on ambiguity in one of those three axes. Each probe pairs with a one-line pivot, not a second STAR, so you have a concrete anchor to say under pressure without sounding scripted.
What does 'why they will ask' actually mean, and can I trust the ranking?
Every question ships with a one-sentence why_they_will_ask that names the specific JD phrase, competency, or responsibility that triggered the pick, often quoting the JD directly (for example, 'the JD lists partner with product to shape roadmap as a top responsibility, so expect a scope-of-influence question'). If a question cannot be traced back to a specific JD phrase, it is dropped rather than shipped with a hand-waved rationale. The tier (very_likely, likely, possible) is a coarse likelihood, not a fake percentage: at least 2 of the 8 deep-tier questions are very_likely, most are likely, and 1 to 2 are possible. Rank the questions by tier when you prep, and if you have limited time, drill the very_likely block first.
Does role seniority actually change the questions?
Yes. Role seniority weights the competency mix directly. IC junior and mid roles see more execution, ownership, and learning-from-failure questions. IC senior, staff, and principal see more scope, ambiguity, cross-functional influence, and technical leadership questions. Engineering managers and senior managers see more people, conflict, hiring, calibration, and feedback questions. Directors and VPs see more org, strategy, prioritization, and org-wide change questions. Free text is accepted so you can be more specific (for example 'staff plus, but hands-on-keyboard heavy' or 'director of a 40-person eng org') and the sheet adjusts. The tool does not guess seniority from your bullets; whatever you type is the anchor.
Should I pick Quick or Deep, and how much does one run cost?
No subscription. Quick is 15 produde tokens and runs on Gemini Flash Lite: 5 questions instead of 8, tighter STAR drafts (2 to 4 sentences per S/T/A/R field), 2 probes per question, and it is designed for the 20-minute panic-prep before a same-day interview. Deep is 40 produde tokens and runs on Gemini Flash: 8 questions, full STAR (4 to 6 sentences per field), 3 typed probes per question (one per category), and a full metric-gap checklist. Pick Deep when you have 48 hours or an important interview loop, and Quick when the interview is in an hour and you want the essentials on paper. Tokens are a prepaid platform credit you buy once and spend across any produde tool, and if a run fails the full token cost is refunded to your wallet automatically.
Will it work for FAANG behavioral loops (Amazon LP, Meta E5/E6, Google leadership)?
Yes, and it is anchored where those loops score you. For Amazon, the JD's Leadership Principles usually surface directly in the responsibilities and preferred qualifications, and the why_they_will_ask lines will quote the LP-tied phrase (customer obsession, ownership, bias for action, deliver results, dive deep) that drove each question. For Meta, the E5-versus-E6 gap on the JD (execution versus scope-and-ambiguity) is captured through the seniority weighting. For Google leadership loops, the L6-and-up scope and cross-functional questions map to the JD phrases about cross-team influence and org impact. The tool does not label questions as 'Amazon LP' or 'Meta axis' directly (those framings drift over time), but the underlying competency mapping matches how those companies score behavioral rounds.
Can I use the same sheet for a screening call and an on-site loop?
Yes, and it is designed for both. For a 30-minute recruiter or hiring-manager screen, drill the very_likely block first and rehearse the STAR draft plus one probe pivot per question. For an on-site loop with multiple behavioral rounds, take the full 8-question sheet (deep tier) and rotate through the questions so no interviewer hears the same STAR twice. The metric-gap checklist is the same either way: fill in every [insert: ...] placeholder before you walk in, because interviewers push exactly on those numbers when they follow up. The sheet is print-ready with a built-in print affordance so you can tape it to the fridge, fold it into your bag, or read from a phone.
Who is it for?
Candidates 48 hours out from a behavioral interview who want the sheet on paper tonight instead of a subscription mock-interview app. Career changers who have not done a behavioral interview in years and need STAR structure walked through with their own bullets. New grads who freeze mid-answer and want the framing pre-written. Engineering managers moving between companies whose behavioral round is now people-first (conflict, hiring, calibration) and needs different bullets than an IC loop. Anyone whose mind goes blank when the interviewer says 'tell me about a time you handled conflict' and wants the answer roughed out in their own voice before they walk in. It is a focused single-purpose tool for the specific behavioral interview on your calendar; it does not run mock interviews, does not record your voice, and does not follow you across a job search.
